Aspartame
Score
32
IARC classified it as possibly carcinogenic (Group 2B) in 2023 while JECFA kept the existing safe daily intake.
Two WHO bodies reported on aspartame the same day in 2023 and said different-sounding things: IARC assessed hazard and landed on Group 2B, 'possibly carcinogenic to humans', on limited evidence; JECFA assessed risk and kept the acceptable daily intake at 40 mg/kg body weight. Separately, WHO's 2023 guideline advises against using non-sugar sweeteners for weight control.
